Break into AM at nearly 27 and no work experience in that field

Hi WSO,

MY SITUATION

I did a master in Finance&Audit in 2018. After that I didn't knew what to do really. Tried to launch small businesses that ultimately failed. I did 6 months at PwC as an auditor and I founded since 6 months kind of a " grocery store" but with fine and local products, but we are 3 founders and I want to get back into finance.

I'm interested in investing, I learn financial modeling by myself, I got my own portfolio and that's the field I want to work in.

THE PROBLEM

But it's discouraging seeing a lot of people lending jobs from internship or after graduation. They probably got 3 years (atleast) less than me. I'm in Europe,  Luxembourg.

What would be the way to get break into AM as an Entry level Investment analyst ? Keep refreshing LinkedIn, JobBoards, send some spontaneous resume and hope for the best ? I don't really got people in my school that went in that field so my Networking possibilities are kind of empty.

Would be glad to get your real and brutal insights ! Thank you in advance.

You tick all the 'required' boxes for these sort of roles, it's really a matter of finding someone/some firm willing to hire someone without an internship. I would encourage you to start CFA to show you're still sharp, and be prepared to accept a role at a smaller/boutique place without a great salary because it will be harder with the larger institutions and their grad pipelines. You may even need to start with a low paying internship-type position to get your foot in the door.

Thank you for your advices that is really interesting. In fact, I never ever considered doing CFA. Is it a "must have" ? If Yes, is CFA 1 enough ? I guess it's just to show that I continue to educate myself.

But I'm from EUROPE. I know in US it's common. I read a lot of forums about financial careers on reddit, WSO... so I'm aware of it but I don't know if a lot of people in Europe do.

Also,  I'm from France, and it seems there is very few spot to pass the exam. If someone in France who got the CFA is passing by .. ;)
