Do LO invest in businesses or stocks?

I’ve been thinking about the different investment styles of equity investing. One of the things that we learn is that a good business is not the same as a good stock. This is very apparent for MM HF-style investing where you look for near-term stock catalysts that will have a quantified impact on share price and/or changes in investor perception of the stock. However, it seems like longer-term holders like LOs or concentrated SM HFs focus so much on business quality that they are really making a call on the business with a little valuation for entry and exit points. Are LOs focused on stock catalysts or identifying points that will change investor perceptions albeit years in the future or just focused on business execution and performance with the expectation that the strong business performance will just push the stock higher in the long run?

They invest in stock. They are interested in stock. Business quality matters for predicting past the next quarter. That’s why they have to assess the long-term business prospects. Stocks follow fundamentals on a long time horizon. Median holding period is about a year and a half if that tells you anything tho. Source : I started my career at a large LO.
