Based on the most helpful WSO content, compensation at top-tier VC firms can vary, but it's generally lower than what you'd find in PE, especially at the junior level. However, at the partner level, the base salaries are more or less similar across top firms.
The VC funds that perform at the highest level have around a 40% IRR by the time they're winding down, so compensation from carry doesn't suffer much either compared to well-performing PE funds.
However, it's important to note that there are a lot of VC funds out there that don't perform as well, and as a result, the industry-wide compensation in VC is generally lower than in PE.
In terms of specifics, I'm afraid I can't provide exact figures as it can vary greatly depending on the firm and the individual's performance. But remember, it's not all about the money - it's also about finding a field you're passionate about and getting good at what you enjoy doing. The money will follow.

Bump

For like a new partner at A16Z (which is a junior role) you are looking at maybe 250k cash and 250k carry per yr
When it comes to leveling, some funds will have two outward facing roles:
Partner
GP
But inside the fund, there's a shitload of levels within each. Like you don't go from a 25 year old partner --> GP
At Andreesseen you'd go like partner (1) - 250 cash / 250 carry
partner (2) ?
Partner (3) maybe 500 cash / 500+ carry
GP, kind of thing
And at the bigger funds, probably a couple different levels of GP as well depending on seniorority
Are these numbers you've heard from people or estimations? Just curious where you're getting this from.
pretty sure it was an estimation
