Transferring Schools

I am a freshman at Indiana University majoring in finance. I really want to work in investment banking preferably in Chicago or NYC. I am out of state and my other option was Ohio State but I chose IU because of Kelley. I'm about to end my first semester and honestly I hate it here socially. I feel trapped and I'm always miserable and I just know I would be having more fun at OSU. I was wondering if the difference between Kelley and OSU Fishers is enough to make staying here worth it. I know Kelley is ranked higher, but neither of them are really target schools so does it really make a difference? OSU is also in-state for me so it would be a lot cheaper if I decided to transfer.

Sorry to hear your freshman year isn't going as well as you hoped, man. Fisher's a solid school but just like you mentioned, Kelley does have an edge in terms of recruiting and is known as a legit semi-target - especially for NYC roles. If money/tuition truly is a factor, that's a respectable reason to transfer and interviewers would likely be receptive to that. Are you looking specifically for IBD?

I guarantee that the social life at OSU and Indiana aren’t that different. Think about why you want transfer, what’s going wrong?

Both schools pull similar kinds of students—each is going to be a cesspool of 18-22 year olds trying to figure themselves out.

If you transfer without sorting your shit out, you’ll have the same problems at your next school.

If you transfer, maybe try to transfer up like going to Columbia or NYU. The NYC scene is world class.

"If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them." - Bruce Lee

I transferred to a target after my freshman year, highly recommend you do so as well. The quality of the kids and job opps are night and day.
