Moving from PE Fund accounting to top 3 rating agency
Hello everyone, I'm a first-time poster here, so please be gentle!
I'm seeking advice on potential career paths and would love to hear your opinions. I graduated with a finance degree from a school that isn't well-known for its corporate connections, and without much guidance from family or the school itself, I was somewhat unprepared for the post-college job landscape.
For the past four years, I've been working in fund accounting on the private equity real estate side. It's not what I originally envisioned for myself, and recently, I've been feeling increasingly unhappy. I'm now exploring other options and considering further education—either an MBA or a Master's in Real Estate (MSRE), especially since I've spent all my career in PE real estate.
Additionally, I've secured an interview for an analyst position at a 3 ratings agency. I'm wondering if this could be a good move, especially to acquire fundamental skills in financial modeling, which I currently lack.
I'm open to various industries and roles, primarily looking at analyst or associate positions. Given my situation, what would you recommend as the best path forward? Is taking an analyst role at a ratings agency a solid strategy for building foundational skills?
Thanks in advance for your insights!
I would take it as long as you’re willing to take a slight step back in title and comp. Will be worth it in a couple years when you exit
Yeah that's where I'm leaning. masters can always come later if needed at some point.
Thanks!
I thought there were only 3 rating agencies
Yes sorry thanks I corrected it.
