Why are there so many UVA kids in the industry?

Maybe because it is prestigious. It's a dawg eat dawg world.
Their undergrad business school, where everyone has commerce majors, is ranked 2nd in the nation. I know because on one interview there were a very large number of UVA kids and one of the guys told me this and I looked it up. It isn't a great school overall for undergrad compared to many, but the business school is legit.
from my experience UVA kids make good bankers. So do Michigan kids, Texas kids, Penn State kids...
You had some legitimacy until you said "Penn State kids" retard generally dont make great bankers - sorry.
one factor for the berkeley, ucla, michigan, uva and texas kids doing better is because they are less stuck up and don't have the sense of entitlement that ivy kids have. not to mention that to have a solid gpa from those schools is probably harder than at ivy due to lack of grade inflation.
do employers in general know about grade inflation? you would think they'd take that into consideration, no?
also keep in mind that many UVA students who got into Ivy's chose to stay in-state because UVA gives you just as good an education at well under half the cost. I can also say from experience that McIntire is a great school that goes out of its way to facilitate students getting into IB.
It is one of the best public schools and certainly the closest one to NYC. Also, people there are in general more sociable than people at ivy schools.
agree with above, i have countless friends at ucla that got into ivys but chose ucla because if its price along with the fact that its in cali
Hmmm, one of my white buddies who goes to UVA has mentioned that it is one of the most RACIST schools in america.... That was his only complaint about the place.
I've heard the same thing man. It's in f*cking Charlottesville! They might as well have filmed the Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel out there...

very misleading as many of the top institutions in the country dont have undergrad business programs
Grade inflation is a big problem, but (a) princeton has a pretty famous and recent, anti-grade inflation policy and (b) grade inflation is definitely not a good or fair phenomenon, but i don't think you can say it's much harder to get the same GPA from state school like UVA as compared to a school like Harvard or Yale simply because you're competing against kids on a different level.
Exactly. Grade inflation wasn't really the problem at Harvard; it was the fact that like 50% of the class got honors. OF COURSE Harvard kids will have high GPAs; they were absolute gunners in high school. Why would you expect them to become lazy? So, sorry ke18sb, but I think you're wrong. It's not super hard to get a 3.8 as UVa biz major. Also:
"less stuck up and don't have the sense of entitlement that ivy kids have."
You MIGHT see that at HYP, but kids at Dartmouth, Brown, etc are not dumb enough to think that they can waltz into IB jobs or that they deserve anything special.
The REAL reasons, I believe, are that: a)they are finance majors and they know what the fuck they're doing, and b) they are a little less likely to be weird, isolated Ivy League nerds.
I've enjoyed working with, and been impressed by everyone from UVa i've encountered.
grade inflation only applies to harvard. talk about cornell,...there are about 8 pple commit suicide here bc workload is friggin' intense.
some schools might be better at actually teaching students rather than just throwing the information at them and expecting them to magically absorb all the words that are flying at them
probably because the Ivies are much less pre-professional and to the extent they are, med and law school are still more popular destinations.
Bmoney- what do you know about penn state huh? retards?
well im from penn state, got a job in banking, know tons of other penn staters in banking, so i guess us retards somehow find jobs regardless of our mental incapacity.
i'd love to know where you go. probably some ivy. it really doesnt matter though because i know im smarter than you and will always be smarter than you. that goes for all other penn staters and other big state schools. its easy enough to judge based on your idiotic posts.
i never thought charlottesville was that bad a place the times i've been, very collegiate
and i know some penn state grads in banking as well who have done a ton better for themselves then some ivy grads i've known, so that earlier argument can be put to rest
My old roommate was from PSU. BB and now is going to a top 10 hedge fund. They're not all morons. :-)
Good candidates come from all types of schools. No one should judge a particular student's performance based on school attended. Overall, the impression might be there, but even non-targets have solid performers. Many firms recruit at Penn State, which has a decent business program, especially Honors.
UVA is one of the 4 undergrad schools where Blackstone recruits, along with Harvard, Wharton, and Columbia.
Blackstone also recruits at Princeton for undergrad
