Kelley if you can get in the IB workshop. If not, you’re going to have stuff uphill battle. Cox if you can get into the ALTs program. SMU COX is a direct target for Houston offices as well as Dallas. Outside of Texas, SMU is a semi-target that’s slowly becoming a name. Good prescience on Wall Street. Cox has done great over the last 5 years-Centerview, Moelis, Lazard, Guggenheim, PJT, Goldman, JP, Citi(NY)and most if not all Dallas and Houston offices.

I would keep in mind that both the IBW and Alts programs are extremely hard to get into. When deciding where to transfer I actually reached out to the alts program director and explained to him my plan and asked if my application would be competitive and he straight said no. For reference From non target school GPA: 3.9 experience: Loan officer Military (4 years active duty) So compare if you’d like but he said I wasn’t even competitive which I honestly appreciated because it helped me make my decision which ended up being a better option anyways. TLDR: give the directors a call and ask if your competitive and or what you need to do to become competitive. Good luck!

SMU is more fun and Texas is more popping of a job market than Indiana. You're not guaranteed IB from either but the college experience at SMU will 100% be better than being in Bloomington, IN lmao. As far as IB, it's about equally doable from either school but SMU's network and perceived "prestige" is probably slightly better than a midwest public school. Imagine your worst case scenario from both schools, SMU will still land you at a solid paying job in a growing Texas job market. With IU it's a little more ambiguous. I have friends who went to both schools and SMU just sounds like a better experience, plus I grew up around the school and the dating scene should be fun. If cost is not a factor, snow mountain u all the way.

This is the stupidest take I've read on this forum. There might be reasons to pick SMU, but being more fun is not one of them.

Also, since when does Indiana's job market impact Kelley's IB placement?

I think what he means is both schools are semi/nontargets without the honors programs, and at face value SMU being a small private school with richer students/alums will probably go further for networking and provide a more enjoyable experience. Fit into the college definitely matters, and SMU fits a certain kind of person while IU doesn’t really have much of an identity.

Crazy how I just got to look through the resume book for those that were accepted into IBW last year (definitely some surprises). Not from either schools so don't know too much but from someone who transferred to my school from IU Kelly, the political scene and greek life are pretty strong factors that are considered to get into IBW and the other one (cant remember the name). Apparently, the other one is easier to get in, but yea IBW will be tough especially as a transfer student. Best of luck regardless!

My honest opinion would be chose the school which gives the most financial aid/lower tuition.

Kelley is known for its placements but it’s whole a lot easier if you get into the IBW/PEW. Getting into the IBS or CMBW can help but you won’t get as many opportunities as the later two. However, since you’re a transfer student, I’d assume you will have to take the Kelley pre-reqs (known as ICORE pre-reqs) and it might impact your chances of getting into the IBW (they look more favorably towards students who are in Kelley). However, without those organizations you can still place on the street as a few people who I know signed at reputable BBs/boutiques and a few other places. The reason why they were able to get an offer was because they grinded their asses off to get an offer. If you’re dead set on the top BBs/EBs, you have to put in the effort to get into the IBW.

SMU is a great school for Houston IB and they do have people place in NYC IB. Can’t speak on how hard it will be as I don’t know anyone personally at SMU but would say it will be helpful to reach out to a few people there for insight.

Regardless, I would say start building a strong network before recruiting starts at the school you decide to go to and even outside of that school. It’ll help you a lot.

My answer may sound vague and more than happy to elaborate more if needed.

Thank you!

I am still waiting for Yale, UVA and Boston Uni. I am an international so IU Kelly is the most affordable. My dream is to work IB in NYC

I have to complete pre business for 1 year before enrolling to Kelly. Do you think Kelly is a better choice?
