Should i still try for the American dream?
Hey,
I am still in high school and dream of getting into finance and maybe even starting my own fund some day. the big problems are i am not packed with cash and i am from gc heavy countries like India/ China which are, as you guys know worst it can get when immigrating to US. I know it will be a 1-2 years till i start uni ( hopefully in the us) and few years till i start work but should i just try for other places like UK? I have always dreamt of going and just spending my life in America but reading about these things specially visa and residency are worrying because as of now very few people are getting sponsored and very very few get green cars and rest get tossed to some other countries.
would really appreciate response.
thanks
I can’t really speak from experience because I was born in the US, but I am a dual citizen. My father is from Mexico and came to the U.S with $20 and a dream. Granted he was dating my mom at the time and she was American. From not knowing any English, working for less than minimum wage washing dishes for years, and coming from a no name tiny university that doesn’t even exist anymore in Mexico, he is now a director at one of the largest military defense contractors in the world. I can’t speak to the difficulty and hurdles you will have to jump, but as long as America stands, the dream lives on. If you really really really want to work and be in the U.S and are willing to sacrifice everything so that your kids can have it easier then you do, then I don’t think there should be anything to big to be in the way of you accomplishing your dreams. God Speed.
Literally nobody has ever said "I dream of being a Director at Lockheed Martin or Raytheon, making $140k base and $300k in stock that vests over 20 years".
America is pretty backwater compared to the ivory towers in Europe and Asia-Pacific. They never really lost their reputation of being a lawless Wild West, nor the rough edges that their populace had compared to their aristocratic and nobler peers in Europe.
The "American Dream" (relatively speaking) never approached the pure grandeur of other cities and countries with thriving economies in the past. Even now, London is a far easier location to make a fortune in an ivory tower compared to New York, which is a bit of a backwater.
The "American Dream" today, at it's absolute reasonable height is making under 3-4MM/annum. That's pretty pathetic, considering you have to rub elbows with the undesirables that were former slaves or current refugees and immigrants. These undesirables don't contaminate the ivory towers of London as much, if at all.
Which two psychos gave this guy helpful bananas? LOL
