Full Time Recruitment

Anyone else having trouble with 2024 full time recruitment? Current undergrad Senior with prior BB S&T, L/S Equity ER, and PE experience and still empty handed.
My numbers over the past 7 months:
- 700+ applications (753 as of today to be exact. To be fair some roles aren’t for fresh undergrads)
- ~4,000 cold emails sent
- Maxxed out personalized LinkedIn requests every week
- As many calls a week possible (typically 12-15)

Regardless, you get the point. Senior year has been a hellish experience. Any thoughts or angles would be greatly appreciated.

Same boat. It's not a you problem, just such a bad hiring market. It seems as though firms have been on a freeze for the past year.

753 is a big number. What kind of applications are we talking? And do you have anyone pushing your application?

One thing I noticed from my job hunt is that firms want someone who can start immediately. We are talking about a duration of 30-35 days between application and start date.
Not sure if it stands true for “high finance”.

I had 1 interview before I had graduated (VP pushed for me) and once I graduated in December 2023 I was getting interview invites much more frequently.

Interesting in regards to the immediate start. Appreciate the note and didn’t fully consider that. And kind of how I mentioned earlier, I’ll even apply to a role that may not be for fresh out of undergrad so a position that is “1+ year” therefore very low expectations in the first place. I’m in the apply to everything mode including IB, ER, L/S equity, & PE seats. Have numerous people pushing for me across the board however there is nothing for them to push me into. Often times where I network isn’t where a role will open up. For example, if Piper’s PCA team in SF opens up a spot there’s little chance I previously spoke to them. Not because I’m not interested, more because it’s much more niche. Even then very few of those level of apps open. Funny enough with my background this recruitment cycle I’ve had final rounds for l/s equity seats (pod shops, tiger cubs, and smaller funds) but end of the day they took on someone who was less risky (2+ years ft experience) and could make an immediate impact. How she goes. Not complaining and just rolling with the punches. Thanks for the color.

I've have no problems here. I had almost 10 super days at this point got a job at MM P/E shop - in the interview process for two other P/E shops. I go to a semi-target.

Gotcha. Thanks for the color. How did you go about getting into the interview room? Networking is the obvious answer but more detail would be greatly appreciated

What's also interesting is that there have been a bunch of postings for FT 2024 as recently as last week. However, it's tough to know in advance if they are recruiting or just ghost-posting. For example, SocGen and TD had a bunch of postings, but it's unclear if any candidate got a single interview, and you cant possibly be able to network in advance with all of them really frustrating

I emailed TD HR about the openings and they said they were for internal purposes and had not spots open. Not sure about SocGen. Very annoying to see full time 2024 posting but not sure if its legit or not
