Becoming sick DURING an internship

Hello everyone,

Suppose the following situation: We had an intern for the regular summer analyst program in the Fixed Income division for 10 weeks (June-September). He fell sick after five weeks and said he would not be able to continue the internship due to that sickness. He performed outstandingly well during the first five weeks.

My question is simple: Make him an offer or not? And why or why not?

Any qualified entries are appreciated.

if he was faking it because he hated the job he won't accept it anyway. if he wants the job he is probably sweating bullets about being sick and potentially blowing the opportunity

Not that you can officially make a decision based on this, but the type of sickness warrants consideration as well. If it was an one-time/surgical sickness, then he will likely be able to work full time. If it was a chronic sickness like hypertension, heart problems, etc, then it is in his best interest to look for something else. You don't want someone taking a sick leave every two weeks.
