Offers: Top HF intern vs Blackrock FT
Hi folks, I am pursuing quant research and recently got two offers:
1. summer intern at a top quant hedge fund (think de shaw, two sigma, hrt, etc.), most likely will be doing equity, good reputation and culture, also heard probability of getting a return offer is pretty high
2. full time at Blackrock, fixed income, job around developing various models to support PMs, lots of learning opportunities, solid name for resume, tho pay is significantly lower than that of ft at firm 1
I am leaning towards the intern offer but I would love to any of hear your advice. Thanks!
Do the internship, I am sure you could exit/switch to something else relevant/interesting with one of those names on your resume
Bird in the hand
if u want to be a quant, its no brainer. do the intern
Do the internship. If you really want to mitigate the risk try and push for a Jan start date at BlackRock.
thanks for the advice! I thought about pushing back the start date but then the concern is having to rescind the signed offer should I get the return, which i don’t feel comfortable doing
Well in that case you'll have to choose between the two. I too, recommend the quant HF job. I think you meant to say renege the offer. Remember these firms wouldn't give a moments thought about rescinding your offer if times get tough for them. Not finance but I heard Facebook rescinding offers a day before the start date. Obviously proceed at your own risk. Good luck!
