Jewelry and Professionalism

Hello,

I wanted to get an opinion on jewelry in the workplace - I was gifted a subtle, thin gold band ring that has been passed through my family, to be worn on my middle finger. Is it inappropriate to wear something like this in an office environment?

Thank you

My dad interestingly does his undergrad signet and watch but no wedding ring. Not quite sure why, but he never wore it at any point in being married to my mom to this day. I wear just my signet ring and a watch, continuing in a sort of family tradition.

If the ring is not at all obtrusive, you're fine. I'd say just wear it, and if you get some negative comments, just wear it only outside of work.

A male is allowed two pieces of Jewelry: A watch and a pen. (wedding rings don't count)

The only difference between Asset Management and Investment Research is assets. I generally see somebody I know on TV on Bloomberg/CNBC etc. once or twice a week. This sounds cool, until I remind myself that I see somebody I know on ESPN five days a week.

Honestly just wear whatever you genuinely feel comfortable with.

I have a gold signet ring (family, not college lol) and I wear it to the office. Tend to joke that I am in a cult when I get asked about it, as I always find it pretty weird when you ask someone about things like that and they get defensive

One ring has nothing to do with being inappropriate in the workplace, in my opinion you can wear 2 to 3 rings at most which suits the outfit. In your case, gold ring which is classic piece and considering the fact that it has value makes it more relevant. Further i can recommend wearing watch leads to more professional look. But you have to be careful while picking one, sporty watches conversely detrimental for your look.
