How I know I am a nerd, I am excited about my new HP 12-c
I have hear rave reviews of the HP12-C, so I picked one up this weekend from J&R. Man oh man, the reverse polish notation takes some getting used to but all in: it's amazing. I will miss the BAII plus but it is getting retired to home office use only and being replaced in my everyday lineup with the 12-c. Anyone else share in these sentiments regarding the switch? Any current 12-c users have some cool tips or suggestions?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the HP 12-C come out 30 years ago?
i know people that keep the 12c on their desk and secretly use BAII+ pro or other. File that under "insecurities".
"To be fair, though, there is one redeeming aspect of the CFAs—one characteristic that is actually legit, the calculator. One of the two calculators permitted to be used on the CFAs is the HP 12C, and apart from the fact that its name sounds like some highly involved consulting framework, it is the epitome of Banker technology. The 12C embodies everything about us—elegant, bold, somehow clinging on to life in a world that no longer needs it. One look at its brushed plastic exterior and you think: “Damn, this thing is pro.”

I cant imagine using anything other than the BA II+. Is the 12-c really that much improved?
The 12-C is awesome. I'm not sure I could use a regular calculator today.
Sadly, I haven't really used it much in a long time. Once you finish school and the CFA program it becomes less relevant when you are using Excel all day.
That said, I still carry it with me in my bag. My current version is north of 10 years old and still works like a charm. My retired dad has one that is north of 30 years old and I think it still works.
The 12-c is the best. My dad gave me his, I learned it while in school and now its the only calc I can use. Do yourself a favor and try it out :)
