KPMG IT Advisory
How does it compare to something like Deloitte BTA?
KPMG looks much less IT centric than Deloitte. Would it make lateralling to management consulting easier?

The BTA program at Deloitte is still in the management consulting field but I've heard its very government centric. KPMG advisory apparently works in the same team as the accountants so you're doing more auditing testing/ controller work
Are you sure BTA at Deloitte is in management consulting? It looks much closer to Accenture SI than anything else. Most on this forum seem convinced that a BTA is 1000x more likely to become kennethlchen's drinking buddy in some waterhole in Oklahoma on weekdays than to lateral/checkdown to some real management consulting gig.
Big 4 IT Advisory (Originally Posted: 03/04/2013)
Recently offered a position with Big 4 IT advisory. I have been working for 2+ years in Financial Services industry in a Product Management/Business Analyst role, and been looking to make a transition. Have had little luck with getting into banking/finance roles so see this as a good next career step. I am not in love with the IT role, but see it as a means to get the KPMG name on my resume and then go from there. What do you guys think?
I think it depends on what “go from there” means. While Big 4 IT Advisory can lead to opportunities in several areas (interesting IT consulting, some process improvement roles, etc.), the work can be a tremendous pain in the ass and most likely will not be a springboard to more desirable finance opportunities.
Like anything else, though, it just depends on what your endgame is. If you are looking to get into IT consulting or get ahead of the impending demand boom for information security professionals, then this is a great spot. It just may not be the best route if your heart truly resides in the finance world.
Good luck.
I originally moved to NYC with aspirations of getting into finance (top 25 school, ok GPA). With the shitty job market and not having the best entry level job to start with, I've had trouble finding jobs in what I want to do. I definitely cant transition directly into finance (been looking at risk management rolls and middle officey type ones). I also have a potential offer to work directly under the COO of a clearing house. Not really sure if this would be better than the security and name of working at big4. any more advice would be appreciated...
What role are you specifically into in KPMG in IT Advisory?
it is an advisory associate role. whats your experience in the industry?
