Georgetown MSB vs UC Berkeley Haas Undergrad

Pretty confused on where to go between these two. Money isn't an issue either way, but nonetheless is the gap in prestige significant enough to justify going to Georgetown over Berkeley (I would have in state tuition at Berkeley).

Edit: I just want to give a big thank you to everyone who replied this post and gave me advice. I seriously wasn’t expecting anyone to give a shit. I’m really having a hard time making a decision, but hearing from people in the industry like all of you is immensely helpful and definitely could sway my choice. So yeah thanks for using your limited free time to help a clueless high schooler out. Much appreciated

I’d be interested in working in SF for sure. One thing I’m having to consider though is that I’m not technically in haas yet. I’d have to apply my sophomore year (30% acceptance rate), whereas I’m locked into Georgetown McDonough. I guess part of the debate in my mind is also Cal Econ ve Georgetown business.

Georgetown places better than a lot of Ivies for NYC placement

Imagine implying GU places better than Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Wharton, Columbia, or Cornell

Chill with the ego. Take a look at LinkedIn and see for yourself bud. GU numbers match yale’s, brown’s, dartmouth’s. And don’t even bring up Cornell. Who is trying to live in Ithaca for 4 years.

Sure, I filtered for each school by:

City: NYC Title: "Investment Banking" Years of attendance: 2014-2020 (Means they were a student at the school for at least one of these included years and graduated between 2014-2020)

Columbia University: 2,315 Alumni UPenn Wharton: 1,360 Alumni Cornell: 824 Alumni Harvard: 479 Alumni Yale: 443 Alumni Princeton: 405 Alumni UVA: 358 Alumni GU: 346 Alumni Duke: 340 Alumni UMich Ross: 274 Alumni Dartmouth: 291 Alumni Brown: 179 Alumni

Good thing I didn't mention Brown and Dartmouth, that's because I already knew GU places better than those two. I also wasn't talking about living conditions, you mentioned placement. No ego here, just faxx

Oh yeah, and GU is awesome. I'd definitely take it over Cal.

Would personally take Gtown given that the Haas admit is not guaranteed (anecdotal but I have friends who had very high undergrad GPAs get rejected... the process seems somewhat random for Haas and it's tough recruiting for IB if you're not in it).

Given this I'd definitely take Gtown for east coast placement and would only consider UCB if you're interested in west coast opportunities.

Couple placed into MM IB and one did big 4 consulting. Heard a common theme of people from Haas being cut-throat and that being outside of Haas placed them at a disadvantage during recruiting.

Had one friend go to Gtown and he wound up at a BB. His experience seemed mostly positive from when I last spoke to him and I know he got interviews at a couple places around the street for east coast positions.

Again this is all anecdotal so I'm sure you'd be fine at either school if you're smart and motivated enough. Just think Gtown positions you better for east coast recruiting.

Cutthroat is a bit harsh perhaps, but it is very driven from Day 1. Don't go to the MSB if you aren't 100% set on finance.

Tbh I don’t know if I am set on finance. I’m also very interested in consulting and possibly exploring management roles at startups/tech firms. Idk I’m just 18 you know. Obviously you are a Hoya yourself, could you talk to me about how MSB students do w MBB placement?

Georgetown. My brother goes to Berkeley and it’s rough. Think hundreds of people just like yourself gunning for the same few gigs.

"Truth is like poetry. And most people fucking hate poetry."

Aren’t all the target business schools cut-throat? If you’re trying to get into IB, you need to hit it running day one of college to get hired from the tippy top companies.
