WSO Venture Capital Course

Has anybody completed the WSO Venture Capital Course? I'm interested in hearing about peoples experience taking the course and if they found it to be a valuable learning experience. Further I'm also interested in the optics of the course from a VC hiring perspective and if it would be considered as reputable or valuable at all.

For context, I'm a product manager with ~3 years of PM experience mostly working on a content streaming app + ~2 years as a customer success/account manager at a PE owned B2B SaaA company. While I enjoy my job as a PM, I find myself being very interested in a lot of different types of technology and think that VC would be an interesting career path for meeting interesting people, working with interesting companies that build interesting products, etc..

As someone that didn't go to a top university or have a CS/finance background, I am exploring ways that I can learn the fundamental concepts on Finance and Investing without committing to a full time traditional masters program.

Thanks to anyone willing to share their thoughts or experience!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, there are indeed individuals who have completed the WSO Venture Capital Course and have shared their experiences. Here's a summary of what they've said:

  • Comprehensive Content: Users like Nabil Hanif have praised the course for its well-designed structure, covering a broad range of topics from the history of VC, fund structures, term sheets, to due diligence. The course also includes a guide for recruiting into VC, which could be particularly beneficial for someone like you with a non-traditional background looking to break into the industry.

  • Practical Application: Another customer mentioned using the course to prepare for a case interview for early-stage investments, indicating that the course content is practical and can be directly applied to real-world scenarios.

  • Reputation and Value: As for the optics from a VC hiring perspective, while the WSO Venture Capital Course is well-regarded among its users, it's important to note that breaking into VC often requires a combination of education, experience, and networking. The course could certainly add value to your profile by demonstrating a commitment to learning about the industry and could be a talking point during interviews. However, it's unlikely to be a standalone qualifier for VC roles.

Given your background as a product manager with an interest in technology and startups, the course could provide you with a solid foundation in venture capital fundamentals. It could also help you understand the financial aspects of the companies you might be working with as a VC.

Remember, networking and leveraging any relevant experience you have will be crucial in making a transition into VC. The WSO Venture Capital Course could be a step in the right direction for gaining the necessary knowledge and potentially making connections through the WSO community.
