Quant @ Physical Commodity Shops
Just wondering what it's like to work as a quant at a physical commodity shop (big ones like Glencore or smaller regional ones), especially
- What is the career progression like?
- How transferable are the skills?
- Will it be possible to jump to a trader role?
- Is it possible to move to a quant role at a more paper trading focused quant (algo) role?
- What would be a fair value starting salary incl. and excl. bonus and how will this progress?
Quant skill sets are used in risk, derivs trading, and analytics at physical traders. But outright algo trading is not something that they do.
