Physical Commodity Trading career: If you started over again.

Evening all, at first I wanted to pursue a career in AM or IB, but since learning more about the Commodity Trading space, it just seems to resonate with me more.

Not having a degree, I'm seeking for alternative routes into the sector with the aim of being a Physical Commodity Trader. Something left of field I've been recommended is to learn Mandarin to stand out as getting a spot on a trading desk.

So my question is for those in the Commodity Trading space (regardless of the actual commodity), if you was starting out in the industry again, other than a degree, what would you do to make yourself standout to the trading desks?

I agree with the above comments. That being said, recognize you are at a significant disadvantage by not having a degree. While I do agree it offers little value to the space it's almost a necessary evil. We reject kids at my shop all the time for little things like not dressing properly.Alternatively, I'm realizing that it's possible you have a decent resume (you didn't specify). In the event that you do, I would take a serious look at your resume and shape it towards skills that would benefit you as a trader. If you have more than 3 years of good/ relevant experience, leave education off your resume (contrary to what people on this forum will tell you, no one cares what school you went to after your first job, especially in this field).Happy to talk, PM me
