Why the difference in salary?
Why do some grad school publications indicate consulting and management focused MBAs get a higher starting salary than finance MBAs?
Also, what's the ceiling for finance/consulting/management?
I'm specializing in finance but I have the option to add another specialization, and I wanna add either consulting, management, accounting, or marketing. I could use the info...Thanks everyone
Look at: Total Compensation
They aren't factoring in bonus which is a substantial portion of finance compensation...
Could also be because many "finance" MBAs at lower-level programs don't go into high finance but rather to internal treasury, accounting, controller roles etc. Tough to know unless you can point us towards the statistics you're referencing.
Banking salaries are significantly lower than consulting salaries: last I checked post-MBA bankers were getting 100Kish to start, while BCG pays 135K. The difference comes when the consultants get a 40K bonus and the bankers get over 100. I've never found accurate total comp stats; I guess when people get their first bonus their business school isn't the first place they call.
