Which top MBA is the right fit for my background?
I'm going to earn my finance degree from a well-known business school in Indonesia (unfortunately not notable internationally since it's a rather new private school)
The GPA system goes by rank regardless your score, so it's a pure competition. Say there are 40 people in one class, first tier (top 10%) will earn a 4.0, second tier (top 15%) will earn a 3.5, third tier (mid 50%) earn 3.0, and fourth tier (lowest 25%) earn 2.5. and finance students are simply those who are willing to win the competition compared to other majors. So, I have to be on the top quarter to earn at least a 3.5, which may put me on a heavy disadvantage to apply for top MBAs in USA or UK.
I might have around 4-5 years of working experience in a bank before MBA, and record says that most finance students work as analysts in Deutsche Bank.
I'm for sure taking finance for MBA. My top 5 choices for MBA (in order)
- Wharton
- Stern
- Cambridge (Master of Finance) or Columbia
- Stanford (would be elective for finance only in 2nd year)
- Haas or Booth
I'm very open to alternatives like LBS, Insead, Saïd, Ross, Marshall, or even Harvard. I'm just trying to figure out which schools would regard working experience more than GPA or your previous undergrad school, the ones in UK seem to have their GPA requirements meanwhile not in the US MBA. but I'd do anything to get into Wharton or Stern.
harvard is generally a solid safety school if all else fails
From my limited experience (i.e posts on WSO), I think you do your GMAT first and depending on your grades shortlist a bunch of schools.
You also do realize that the schools you listed are extremely difficult to get into?

I didn't generally hear much about HBS. More like their law school as the world's best. However, the others that I mentioned are very notable for business.
Like, I'd choose UoI rather than Penn for engineering school.
Dude, let's discuss this topic when you get accepted. FYI, applicants for top MBA programs have both solid work experience AND high undergrad GPA. International applicants usually have 730+ GMAT in addition.
This feels like a posting by a college senior without an offer who is spending time considering which firm is the best.
