USC vs Tufts vs Emory.
I have gotten into all three schools to study economics. Which one should I choose?
I like all three schools, but my main concern for USC is the fact that it is an engineering school, for Emory is the fact that it is in the deep south and I am Indian-American and for Tufts, my main concern is the weather.
What exactly is your concern with Emory being in the south? If by "deep south" you are implying it is filled with "rednecks", that is certainly not accurate. Weather will definitely suck comparatively at Tufts and as far as I know, USC isn't known primarily as an engineering school. Overall I think you should focus more on cultural fit, program strengths, and which school will best position you for the industry you think you'll end up in after graduating. Weather should be a secondary factor, you'll get used to the cold if you need to. Have you visited each school? Or do you have older friends at each one you can reach out to?
All three are great schools so congrats. USC is not "known" for engineering, it's known for everything. Frankly, they all are, and anyone telling you otherwise is misleading you (sure some are stronger in certain disciplines but once you get into the top 30 or so you'll be trained very well in any major). I did Tufts for undergrad, and the majority of my econ friends were recruited to Wall Street. You need to visit each one of these schools (virtually if you have to, and the surrounding town(s). USC/UCLA were close for me for undergrad but coming from Orange County and the US Navy I dreamed of being educated in Boston that's why I chose Tufts. Emory would be an incredible experience, and in my opinion Georgia is beautiful and the people are very sweet... and I'm Lebanese, born in Saudi, and stayed there for six weeks.
Everyone I knew who went to Tufts have (very) strong family connections in the industry. In essence, they had gigs lined up for them after graduation.
Emory and USC are "less elitist".
First you need to know what are your career goals. i personally know more than a few people who went to Tufts, and are now MD's at investment banks, partners at law firms, real estate developers, etc...and they all thought very highly of their time at Tufts.
