US-> UK-> US
Current high school junior and want to get into IB. I already accepted that there’s no way I get into a target undergrad in the US. unless you count NYU. but I’ve been thinking, getting into a UK target is not out of the question yet. Would it be possible for me to go study in UK get recruited there and eventually move back to the US?
Like I mean get recruited into the UK branch of some bank and ask to move back to the US branch?
Lmk if crazy and that’s just impossible.
Thanks.
is tuition $ an issue?
Kind of. US tuition wouldn’t be the end of the world but uk tuition would greatly preferred.
American at UK semi target. Got offers in IB and S&T. Not impossible but you need a good network
Alright that’s awesome. have you thought of going back the US?
Offer is in NY, didn't apply to London. No interest in paying more rent for less pay and shitty food…
Your plan isn't as far-fetched as you might think. Based on the insights from the WSO dataset, moving between international offices within the same bank is a possibility, though it comes with its own set of challenges and considerations. Here's a breakdown of what you need to know:
Recruitment into UK Banks: UK universities, especially those considered targets, have strong recruitment ties with banks in London. Securing a position at a UK branch of a bank could indeed be your entry into the world of investment banking.
Internal Transfers: The possibility of transferring from a UK branch to a US branch exists, but it's important to note that such moves are generally easier for high-performing employees. Performance, networking within the firm, and timing play crucial roles in securing an international transfer.
Visa and Work Authorization: Moving from the UK to the US branch will require you to navigate visa and work authorization challenges. The bank would need to sponsor your visa in the US, which is more likely if you've proven to be a valuable asset to the firm.
Cultural and Operational Differences: Be prepared for differences in work culture and operations between the UK and US offices. Adaptability and a willingness to learn are key.
Networking and Building Relationships: Start building relationships within the firm from day one, including with those in the US office. Networking can significantly increase your chances of a successful transfer.
Considerations for Long-Term Career Goals: Think about how this move aligns with your long-term career goals. Gaining international experience can be valuable, but ensure it fits into your broader career aspirations.
In summary, while your plan involves navigating several challenges, it's certainly within the realm of possibility. Success in this path will depend on your performance, networking skills, and sometimes, timing. Keep in mind that each bank's policy on international transfers can vary, so it's also a good idea to research and even reach out to current employees or alumni for their insights.

just make sure ur application is very competitive - target econ courses are extremely competitive. although because u would be international fees you would have an advantage over UK applicants.
Wow I hadn’t even thought of that. thanks
are the any targets that you think prioritize the fee paying internationals more than uk applicants? I just looked up lse but are there any others?
