Tell waitlisted school about other acceptances/scholarships to show dedication to wanting to get into waitlist?

I've been waitlisted at a certain 'power 7' school and recently received a phone call a couple weeks ago from the waitlist manager saying that they were contacting a small number of waitlisters (top of the list?) and I was asked why xyz school and other questions.. basically I went on for 14 minutes about my reasons and I think i did pretty well -- now just the waiting game. Also sent my waitlist manager some updated leadership roles I've taken on.

I found out the other day I received basically half off at a top 15 school through scholarship offerings but I still feel the pull of the top 7 school and I want to go there -- so much as to wait til next year to reapply first round there (and some other top 7 schools i didnt apply to this year, if need be) and work on my app/profile a bit more. I have another follow up email I intend on sending my waitlist manager (basically building on an idea that I had in the application essay for what I'd add to the school) and I was wondering if I should mention that even though I was accepted w/ money to xyz school I still want to persevere to push on with my attempts to get into the school... or will that seem too pretentious or come off bad? :P thoughts?!

I'd assume this only carries any weight if it is a higher ranked school. For example, if you were on the CBS waitlist, got accepted to Wharton, and then used that Wharton offer to leverage your way into the CBS program.

i think it sounds reasonable, almost certainly will not hurt, and may help a little. might suggest being careful to not sound like you are asking them for money too - this could be improperly interpreted as "if you want me to go to your school you better match what i was given over there". watch out for that. i would ask one of the consultants on this board - i am sure they have had clients in this situation, and would be willing to share experiences.

good luck

first congratulation on receiving an offer!! second, the phone call is really good news I think it will not heart to call them and let them know about the other option, but how much you prefer their school
