SMU - PMBA worth it?
Hello all,
I just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with the SMU MBA program or more specifically the PMBA and whether or not it is worth it?
I intend to stay at my current bank but would not be opposed to hearing offers across various commercial banks or transition into corporate banking. I Intend to stay in Dallas as my family is settled so no need for an expansive network beyond DFW.
thank you!
Cox is a good business school. Know some directors at Texan PE firms who went to Cox for their MBA. I’d argue the McCombs network is better across the state, but in DFW you can’t go wrong with Cox, I guess. However I’d ask, would it really add to your earning potential and knowledge base? What’s your goal with getting an MBA and why do you think it’ll help instead of working harder for two years? The foregone earnings and absurd pricetag would make me think twice.
I would likely be doing the PMBA (assuming full time wouldn’t be immensely more valuable?) so no income loss for me as I would work and do the MBA at night in person. However, you still have access to the same clubs, career services and recruitment as full time MBA.
At my current company the majority of VP\SVP roles have MBAs and while it is preferred it has almost become a requirement. My intent would be get an MBA so I could jump into VP/SVP over the next 4/5 years. However, I would definitely hit the recruitment stuff on campus just to test the waters upon graduation to see what kind of offers are presented.
it is good to know the network is strong though! It is definitely expensive but seems like it may be worthwhile?
