Same old Question: Rochester MSF/ Brandeis MAief /Georgetown MA Econ
I am currently choosing between Rochester MSF/ Brandeis MAief/ Georgetown MA Econ
As a Chinese student, I know it is hard to crack into the Finance industry in the States but I just want to have a try. At least I want to get an intern in America before go back to China.
cons for each program:
Rochester: Location is terrible (it allows for a half-year extension for job seeking and intern, maybe I can find one in other cities), too many Chinese ( a drawback for the impression of American Bosses), also expensive (72k for tuition only)
The school dean is hinting that MS students are cash cows for B schools in America
Brandeis: is the B school OK? Their records are somehow impressive this year (https://www.brandeis.edu/global/your-global-career/career-outcomes.html) Too expensive (90 k for tuition only)
All these two schools have weak reputation in America and China
Georgetown: a new program with only a year and a intensive curriculum prevent us from having an intern or a job in the US, and I can't get much data about the job prospect, class profile on the website
PS: also get a MS Actuarial Science ad from Columbia under the School of Continuing Education, but not interested in the content, and I heard that it has a bad reputation in the actuarial industry. Is this one a good choice?
Why don't you apply to BC or Nova?
BC has not yet responded to me, while Nova starts too early (before I finish my undergrad)
I'd take Georgetown strictly because of the brand. Placements aren't always a indicator of success. Gtown is a target and a masters in econ will make sense with recruiters.
