Queens MSF/MSC - Great School but a joke!
So I really like the Queens MSC (finance track) program. Its a great brand name, terrific placements and has been spoken about positively by everyone I have conversed with.
So I was definitely gonna apply.
However, on their website, it makes mention to contact the office if you're an international student. So I thought thats weird but did so anyway.
To cut it short, after getting off the phone with them, they turn around and tell me they only accept one international student per year for no precise reason!!!! The woman I spoke to mentioned a variety of things but none that actually related ot my question.
I was shocked. I realise international students are a different commodity, for lack of a better word, but thats ridiculous.
I just wanted to share this with everyone who wants to apply but has very little chance of getting in!
Well, I currently attend Queen's, and I think its more than justifiable for them to maintain a fixed quota for international students. If they didn't, they could potentially become the next University of Toronto (great school, vastly illiterate student body at undergrad level). Also bear in mind that the MSF program is fairly new, and hence admits a really small class.
Regardless, you don't seem to fit the "azn fob" bill. If you have the stats to get into Queen's MSF, you'd be a great candidate for UofT's MSF or even LSE's MSF. In fact, if I were an international student, I would go for a US or UK school instead.
If you really want to 1up other applicants, send an email to the Dean (Saunders). He is highly approachable, and I've heard of multiple cases (myself included) where student have be re-admitted despite declining their Queen's offer of admission.

I am applying to a number of different schools across the US. I'm from the UK so didnt really want to remain there after graduating with a law degree and a masters from Oxford and LSE respectively. So I am well aware of LSE.
The issue was that I felt Queens is a terrific school and by limiting their international applicant pool, they are handicapping their program and perhaps their reputation. I think I am more then competitive to enter the Queens program, with a GPA of 3.6 and some work experience, and with the all important GRE to come. So I may still apply, but I do not know it as worthwhile spending the $100 if I have a very small chance of gaining entry to the point where I'm seen as an international student and therefore immediately disposed of.

Be grateful. Many MSF programs will accept people who they know they cannot place just for the cash.
Absolutely agree but the problem is they place well for international students but they, I guess is just augmented by the small size they take in.
Isn't the queens MSC like 1 day a week? Why take this course unless your working? I'd go full time somewhere else.
