MS Financial Mathematics (Heavy Quant) or MS Finance - or where are the most money?

Eternal question I guess...a degree in heavy quant finance...i.e financial mathematics, quant finance, financial engineering, probabilities and finance OR MS in Finance

which pays out the most ? Front or Back office in IB.

I guess the above are questions of many of us in this group forum!!

Many Thanks!

I am no expert but, is it really so cut and dry? I reviewed a ton of S&T arms of everything from boutiques to BB and everything in between and have seen every kind of degree and at that maybe one or two out of 10 are quant related.

you'll definitely find a place in a mutual fund.......

Well, MS in finance math is sometimes looked at like completed a CFA charter, but with more quantitative than qualitative specialization.

If you get the degree at NYU, Columbia, Berkeley, Princeton, Carnegie Mellon, U Chicago or perhaps University of Toronto or Stanford you will definitely be actively recruited. If you do the program at a decidedly second-tier school probably not.

The degree is definitely highly regarded by BBs, but not for IB. It's more research and quant-oriented types of positions. You'll be better fit on the trading floor. I know people that have worked at Soros, Tudor, and SAC to name a few. These people went to NYU and Chicago for their programs. It's a very tough degree though compared to an MBA.

Does anyone know what the acceptance rates are at top schools such as Chicago or Princeton? I searched for it online but couldn't find this information.
