Masters in Energy Economics - Rice University

Does anyone have some insight into this program? The cost seems relatively high for a 1-year program (56,000) just tuition. The class sizes also look fairly small (around 20 people). Wanted to see if anyone had any comments or thoughts on how this program is regarded in the Energy Finance world down south and what kind of opportunities I should be looking at.

Thanks in advance.

The master is pretty known in the industry, though not the best one. Is heavily economics based, thus a lot of micro/macro without "finance" touch. I'd say that most common masters for energy finance are the Master in Commodities Trading at Uni Geneva, and the master in Energy Trade and Finance at Cass Business School in London. Both are demanding and quant focused masters well known in the industry, with teaching staff with many years of experience in the field and very good connection with Oil majors, traders, and commodities houses.

But mostly depends on your goals, because for commodities trading if you show interest on the field and have a quantitative degree you can also get a position

Thanks for the insight. I actually looked at those two programs but it looks like they are extremely focused in Europe. For example the Cass program had pretty much everyone accepting jobs in the EU/UK and a few in Asia. Is there another option you would recommend looking into for the U.S or do you think these programs still hold significant weight back in the states.

Thanks!
