Major
hello,
I'm currently in my second year at Cornell University, and I'm at a pivotal moment where I'm deciding on my major. My passions lie strongly in history and government, though I've found economics less engaging and challenging in a way that doesn't resonate with my academic strengths. My performance in economics courses has been less than stellar, sparking concerns about its potential impact on my GPA and, consequently, my ability to secure internships.
As a dedicated student athlete, I'm also planning to pursue a minor in business. Additionally, I'm thrilled to share that I've secured an internship for the upcoming summer. Given my academic interests and career aspirations, I'm considering majoring in history with a minor in business.
I believe that focusing on history, a field where I excel and am deeply interested in, could significantly benefit my GPA. Moreover, there's a growing perspective that I have heard from people in the industry that the specific major might be becoming less critical than the overall academic performance and GPA in professional settings.
I'm particularly interested in exploring opportunities in investment banking (IB) post-graduation. Could you provide some insight into how a major in history, complemented by a business minor, might be perceived within the IB industry?
At an Ivy you're probably okay with history and business minor, especially if it'll protect your GPA
Early internships will help with the "so why finance if not a finance/econ major?" questions. Think this is fine. Econ is hardly relevant to finance jobs anyway. Make sure to network
