IE vs ESCP vs ESSEC vs EDHEC
Hello everyone,
I am a european who speaks 4 languages and has double citizenship. I am graduating this summer but I still do not know what masters to pursue.
I have been admitted to IE for the MIF and at EDHEC for the MIM-Finance. Still waiting for results from ESCP for the MIM and from ESSEC for the MIM. I still am not sure about what career I want to have (whether IB, consulting, ecc). I would choose the program/school that opens the most doors and has better placement (as my work destination choice would be London>Paris>Madrid.
Which program is best? Can someone please rank the programs and explain accurately what each program is good for? Do any of you know specifics about each schools Placement? Would pursuing a MIM at either ESCP and ESSEC allow to pursue a career in IB/PE or should I rather choose the MFin programs?
essec by far
Does pursuing a MIM at ESSEC allow to pursue a career in IB or is that an option only for the MIF?
with both you can as long you take specilisations in finance
In France you would be a target everywhere (BB, MBB) with a MiM from ESSEC. Much stronger than the MiF
If you speak French then 100% go for a MiM. They are the target programs in France.
ESSEC MiM > ESCP MiM > Edhec MiM > ESSEC MiF > ESCP MiF > IE MiF
I don’t speak french but I am confident that in 2 years living in France I could earn a B2/C1 as I already speak 3 other Latin descendent languages, which would make it easier to learn French. How do the schools fare in placement? Can you easily end up in London from ESSEC and ESCP?
Better with ESSEC
For me IE is out of the question.
Then if you want to keep the consulting door open, go for a MiM at ESSEC/ESCP. They also both place quite well in London.
If you’re more into Finance then a MiF at ESSEC/ESCP is a good choice but 1-year only
Any other opinions?
French-educated here and went to one of the French schools you list above.
In absolute rankings, it goes ESSEC > ESCP > EDHEC > IE
If you want to keep your options open about consulting, definitely go to ESSEC or ESCP (MiM only). EDHEC is at best semi-target for consulting, even less so for people who did a MSc instead of a post-prepa MiM. Moreover, London might be easier to target for consulting rather than Paris if you're not a classic prepa + MiM student (which I assume you're not based on previous comments)
For ESSEC, MiF has both Corporate and Market finance courses, whereas ESCP is a full-fledged Corporate Finance/IB programme.
Finally, your choice of MiM vs MSc should be based on several criteria:
- how sure are you of career choice
- do you still want to live the student experience (MiM being 2 years)
- how solid are your previous experiences: if you still need to refine/build your resume, MiMs in France have an integrated gap year where you could complete internships before applying for grad schemes
- how much student debt are you willing to take on (could be relevant to some more than others)
I am still not 100% sure about the career path that I want to pursue, but it would probably be IB. However, since my bachelor is not in finance nor business administration I have applied to the ESSEC MIM and ESCP MIM and I am waiting for their feedback (so I would say that ESSEC and ESCP MIF are off the table). I honestly do not care much about the student experience, but rather about the best program and better opportunities. Moreover, fees are not a main concern for me. Would the MIM still give me a good chance for IB or should I go with a MIF?
Hey ! I think that ESSEC & ESCP place quite equally in Paris and London. I think MiM programs are better if you don’t have a lot of experiences because they allow you to do many internships. With good networking and interview prep you can land anywhere.
