Highschool Senior Majoring in Finance Debaiting weather Marquette or University of Minnesota Twin Cities

I am a 18 year old senior in high school trying to figure out my college outcome for next year. I am in quite the predicament on weather I should attend Marquette University in Milwaukee Wisconsin. I was accepted into the Honors program and will most likely join the AIM ( ACCELERATING INGENUITY IN MARKETS). I am from Milwaukee and have net worked pretty hard to get an internship this summer, and have made other networks around Milwaukee.

I have also been accepted into University of Minnesota Twin cities and directly admitted into Carlson School of Management. UMN has a investment banking club aswell as access to big companies and firms within the twin cities and many fortune 500's. While Marquette has a few. If I attended UMN I would most likely rush a frat to gain another net work, while on the other hand Marquettes close alumni and AIM cohort would also give me a unique Alumni network. I really don't know which to pick.

My dream is to go into Investment Banking in NYC, I am wondering which school would give me the best result and placement considering there both non target schools. If anyone has any insight or suggestion it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Given your ambition to break into Investment Banking in NYC and considering the context of your situation, let's weigh the options based on the insights from the Wall Street Oasis community and the general knowledge about networking, program specifics, and alumni connections in the finance industry.

Marquette University: - AIM Program: Being part of the Accelerating Ingenuity in Markets (AIM) program at Marquette could provide you with a specialized skill set and knowledge base that's attractive to employers in the finance sector. This hands-on experience could be a significant advantage. - Local Networks: Since you're from Milwaukee and have already started building a network there, Marquette could offer you a stronger local support system. This could be beneficial for internships and job opportunities during your studies. - Alumni Network: Marquette's close-knit alumni network, especially within the AIM cohort, could offer unique networking opportunities. A strong, engaged alumni network can be crucial for breaking into competitive fields like investment banking.

University of Minnesota - Twin Cities: - Carlson School of Management: Direct admission into the Carlson School of Management is a significant advantage. The school's reputation and its focus on practical business education can provide a solid foundation for a career in finance. - Investment Banking Club: Participation in the Investment Banking Club could offer you insights into the industry, networking opportunities, and possibly even direct recruitment events with firms looking to hire. - Access to Big Companies: The Twin Cities area hosts numerous Fortune 500 companies, providing a broad landscape for internships and networking. This exposure to large, successful companies could be invaluable. - Fraternity Network: Joining a fraternity could expand your network further, offering connections that go beyond your immediate field of study.

Conclusion: Both institutions offer unique advantages. Marquette's AIM program and strong local networks could provide a focused and supportive environment. On the other hand, the University of Minnesota's broader access to large companies and the dynamic environment of the Carlson School of Management could offer a wider range of opportunities and exposure.

Given your goal of breaking into investment banking in NYC, consider which environment will challenge you more, offer broader networks outside your current reach, and provide opportunities to stand out in a competitive field. While both are non-target schools for NYC investment banking, your proactive involvement in clubs, networking, and internships, along with excellent academic performance, can pave the way to your dream career. Remember, it's not just the school but what you make of the opportunities it offers.
