Do I need bschool?
So, years ago, I posted on here as a senior in college, non-target. 3.3 GPA, trying to get into IB. Didn't make it. Kept trying, these forums told me it was possible, but much easier at the associate level through business school. I wanted to get in as an analyst, so didn't take no as an answer. Took a job at the big-4.
When I was at the big-4, I landed interviews at all the top shops, GS, CS, MS, JPM, for not the top groups, but decent coverage / equity research groups. Ended up getting an offer and going to a second tier shop, (i.e, not GS / MS but a top 10 bank in league tables). Did my 2 years and it was great - but wanted more M&A experience in a specific subsector that I only covered a little in my analyst years, so I was able to lateral at a known boutique that has very high deal flow in the MM as an associate.
Question is, I'm getting old now, and I know I want to continue working in finance, that's whether I stay where I am and rise, or move over to PE and work at a fund with less than $1.5bn in assets (as these are the funds I currently sell my deals to).
What is everyone's suggestion on whether I pursue business school or not? I feel like with my background / work experience, I should only go top 7, but feel like I'd need a 750+ with my GMAT to go to one of those schools. Also, considering my goal isn't to work at McKinsey / KKR, etc, do I even "need" it to work in the MM?
Bump
You should read what @CompBanker has written about this in the past. He was in somewhat similarly shoes as you, meaning he didn't need to go, yet he still chose to do so.
