Decision - MBA or Job

Dear Monkeys,

I have been working for 2 years for one of the BB in trading (GS/JPM/MS). I think I am doing a decent job.

Out of School, where I studied engineering, I got accepted to one of the top MBAs (HBS/GSB). I didnt study at an Ivy School but still a respectable one.

Now I need to decide if I want to go do an MBA or not. I know a lot would say that it is completely useless for trading and I should do it only if I want to change industries. The answer is I am not sure.

I like my job but I am worried that on the long term a school + its contacts will matter (If I get fired for instance)

Let me know your thoughts and thanks a lot for your help.

I assume you are a 2+2 candidate for HBS. If so, why not extend for the 3rd year. At least that way you can get a grip on what you want to do with your life and which road you want to travel down. In all honesty, that extra year will tell you 100% more than a response from someone on WSO who knows nothing about your situation. Good luck with your decision.

Thanks a lot for the answers. I am probably going to defer for another year. But then, I will probably face the same dilemma. I am just wondering if an MBA is worth it or not in my situation. It is a big investment and whether or not I want to stay in trading long term, it is big risk to actually leave the company for something no one would really expect from you. However when comes the time they think they should replace you, it could be useful.

Anyways thanks again for your comments
