Complex Analysis (Math Course)
Hi all,
I know this is an untraditional question but it seems like there are many math majors here that can hopefully provide me with some advice. I am currently thinking about moving away from a physics concentration to mathematics. I've taken proofs and am thinking about taking complex analysis next fall. Can someone briefly explain how this course was and if I should take real analysis first before complex analysis. Thanks for your time.
umm real may give you a better understanding of topology so you can dive into complex later on
I took Complex Analysis before Real Analysis. I think the people with Real Analysis background had more familiarity with the types of proofs involved (lots of epsilon, delta), but I did well in the class and I am not a math genius.
I took complex before real analysis as well. Though, there were two tracks for real analysis at my school (one more rigorous on the proof side, the other, less so).
Usually complex analysis is a bit more focused on applications than real analysis. It often lies halfway between, say a PDE class and a real analysis class in terms of rigor.
Even if you want to continue in physics, complex analysis will serve you well.
