CBS (sticker) vs. Cornell Johnson ($$$$, park fellow)

hi guys,

Just got word back on some schools and ive narrowed things down to above. Im nearly certain ill end up taking Johnson as the placement for IB is near the same as Columbia, but I do feel like id be losing out on the prestiege/brand/network factor. What do you guys think? Targeting IB after school.

I'm not opposed to buyside or anything I just think my previous WE (Financial services FP&A and Corp Dev) wouldn't really give me a compelling case to compete for one of those roles, especially with the current economy. My thought process was do 2 years in banking and assess whether I could hack the work life balance, and if not recruit for buyside (I know unlikely) or just go into a director of corp dev role after becoming a VP. Any thoughts on my thought process? Does the career path I stated change anything?

I passed up Cornell full ride for a “top 10” name. In hindsight these would be my rules to follow:

If you get into H/S/W, go there no matter what

If you have the background for a good shot at PE directly out of school and that’s what you want to pursue, go to the best brand name you can

If none of the above apply, go with cheapest top 15 option

(These rules barring any significant personal / relationship factors due to location etc)

Some people might struggle with the chip on the shoulder type thing but realistically you’re pocketing 150k and the freedom after school of not having those loans looming actually makes a difference. I had a partial scholarship at my place and still finding it annoying, especially as banking bonuses have been light the past 2 years
