I remember he wrote a brilliant post on life post-MBA X number of years out, but finding specific posts that are really old, and whose keywords are oft-repeated, is a bit of a slog (I've spent 15 minutes doing it - can't find it).
Anyone got it here? MBAApply do you yourself remember this one? I know you hardly come by here anymore - I don't either.
The whole point is - for a really good "life" reason, I'm going to miss a major alumni reunion. Friends who went to theirs a year earlier told me the tone felt really different from previous reunions, in a good way.
Really feel like re-reading that pearl of wisdom Alex left us c. 10-15 years ago.

Honestly don't remember what I wrote haha
But probably some version of how as adults we continue to change (as a 25-year old it can be easy to assume that you've "arrived" fully formed as an adult because you're no longer a child, but reality is we all continue to change, grow/regress with life experience)
Frankly I probably changed a bit since I wrote that
A lot if it is just stages in life which has nothing to do with schools or employment
Priorities change as you go through different stages in life
When you're young and single and career oriented, your mind is preoccupied with work, careers, social clout that comes with it etc
Most people in their 20s value social clout the most if not exclusively, and so their sense of self revolves around that - I probably was more judgy of my younger version (and those in the same age group) but now I find it sort of charming, and there's really nothing wrong with it; it's a rite of passage I suppose
You get married or have a long-term partner - usually shifts your mindset
Then kids, then grandkids (some of my classmates now are *grandparents*)
Also, health - some of my classmates have passed away; not just one's own but parents, spouses, and kids (having kids with disabilities or who are neurodivergent certainly changes your life's priorities as well); instead of comparing SAT/GMAT/MCAT/LSAT scores, we're comparing our HDL/LDL cholesterol, blood glucose numbers, and driving each other to our colonoscopy appointments haha
Life and age comes up faster than you think
(as of this writing, news of OJ Simpson passing away of cancer; and mentioning with some friends that it was 30 years ago (!!) with the trial)
Over time it's mutual, as what you cared about or who you were in your 20s becomes a distant memory; and that's likely what you'll see in reunions, or even less formal get togethers and catchups with old classmates; not always, but usually more kinder to each other, because life (see above - marriage, kids, health) humbles you
