Breaking into IB from York University (Not Schulich)

Hey Monkeys,

What are your thoughts on breaking into the industry from this university?

Do I have a chance?

Just to clarify, this is Univeristy of York in the UK?

If so, then it's a strong university, and HR will usually filter by "Russell Group" universities, and University of York is one of those. It isn't a top 5 university (which is Oxbridge, LSE, and then probably UCL / ICL), but strong enough (although as the other poster suggested, you'll have a slightly weaker application than the very strong schools, so be sure to network, etc.)

i think hes talking about york university in canada

I am from York (Schulich) specifically, next to impossible tbh to get in from York.

I know one person (a girl, so somewhat diversity) that did make it. She spent two years at my bank, where they were put under "performance review" before being given a bottom bucket bonus at A2, not promoted to associate and told to look elsewhere. I don't think my last bank will hire someone else from York.

York doesn't give you the following

1) The grind mindset. York classes are easy and IB is a grind, Schulich does a decent job at the workload

2) The polish.

3) The degree doesn't hold much value

I am sorry to be this person, but it's better to know this now so you can make changes as necessary if you want to pursue IB. Do yourself a favour, either transfer to Ivey in 3rd year, try again after your MBA, or do ER/HF and try to push through that way.
