Bentley vs Babson vs RPI vs Siena

Hey all, I'm a high school senior who is going to have to decide where I go in the coming week(s) and I need advice. I want to work in banking after graduating. I had pretty solid stats when applying for schools but due to covid I had a weak freshman year and didn't have great extra curriculars. Currently I'm leaning towards Bentley or Babson. RPI and Siena are both local to me, but I realize that they are very much non targets. RPI offered significant financial aid, which is keeping them in the running for me. The same is true of Siena, but I doubt that's where I'll go.

One thing that complicates this decision is that I'm not just looking for which school gives me the best shot at working in IB, but also which school gives me the best chance to transfer after freshman year, as I would much rather be at a target school (shocking)

Also, advice on how heavily I should weigh schools having bloomberg terminals vs not having them would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I can’t speak to the banking aspect of those schools. I can speak to the transferring to a target school and things if that nature.

1. Easiest out of the way first, Bloomberg terminals at schools mean virtually nothing in terms of transferring. Really this is a tool that is up to you to utilize and learn from.

2. In terms of choosing a school that will transfer to a target school I think this process is more simply then you think. I would choose a school that you can perform best at and has the least amount of financial burden. At targets they typically take very few credits so that last thing you want is to have taken on a lot of financial burden for virtually no gain.

3. Your main goal for transferring should be
A. Getting the best GPA possible (preferable a 4.0, I ended with a 3.9)
B. Gaining professors trust and respect at your school for recommendations
C. Taking any pre-required classes for schools for example a lot of schools require Calc before you can even transfer to them some even require Calc 2.
D. Depending where you want to go, learn about them and what they look for in students and get ready for those essays!!

Personally, I were you then I wouldn’t goto Bentley or Babson due to them probably being harder then the ones giving you financial aid. I transferred to a high target from a school very similar to Bentley so it’s definitely doable. Good luck and reach out if you are confused about anything.

Thanks for the response, in terms of the pre-requisite classes, I know a number of schools require calc 1&2 and macro/micro economics, which I'm taking AP classes of right  now. Do you have a recommendation as what to take beyond higher level math and econ classes?

Also, in  terms of financial aid for bentley and babson, they haven't sent me any information yet, because  of changes to the FAFSA that delayed the processing of my aid.

I wouldn’t say go crazy or anything because again a lot of classes won’t transfer and which ones do transfer are school dependent. Maybe take accounting classes or financial management classes. That way it’ll help you understand banking technicals and terminology. Other then that I would again say take classes your confident you can get a good grade in. If your looking to transfer. If not babson is decent college too, I went to a JPM event (non IB) at my non-target and there were a lot of Babson alumni.

I also want you to be aware tho that if you take the approach I laid out your putting all your marbles on transferring. If you aren’t able to transfer I would create a plan b of backup schools (fordham, IU, Vandy) that still give you a chance to break in somewhere.
