any shot at HSW?
hey everyone,
I'm thinking of applying to business school at some point soon, and was wondering if i could get opinions on my chances at HSW.
i graduated with a 3.98 from a T25 university. I'm currently studying at a T10 law school.
as for work experience, I'm currently in talks to sell a company i started for a pretty decent chunk of change (but not enough to retire lol).
I'm pretty young (24), and haven't worked full-time on my company for all that long (about 1.5 years). however, the experience has been truly priceless and i know ill have no issues writing about them in a b-school essay (especially from a leadership standpoint, which i know H loves). one of my worries is letters of rec. would it be appropriate to get one from someone that was on board my startup team?
also, with the whole law school thing, I'm not quite sure its for me. i enjoy what I'm learning but am not so sure i want to practice law. I'm thinking business school more suits my interests. is a top law school on your resume a significant enough of an achievement to warrant me sticking it out? i fortunately have a large scholarship to attend so money is not much of an issue.
any input/advice i can get on my chances at HSW would be greatly appreciated. thank you.
oh and i haven't taken the GMAT yet but i heard compared to the LSAT its not too crazy. so that aside, what are my chances? thanks again
For one thing, mastering the LSAT absolutely prepares you to dominate the qualitative half of the GMAT. Ask anyone you can find who's done or is doing a JD/MBA. The typical path is to take the LSAT first and then study the quant for the GMAT.
thanks for the input
anyone else got any advice?? id appreciate all the help i can get
x
I think you have a pretty good chance. All the best!
what is it that you want to do? can you answer why b school, why now, and be convincing about it
If you wanted to do an MBA, did you not consider a joint JD/MBA, seeing as you are in law school?
You graduated from a T25 with a 3.98 gpa but only ended up at a T10 law school? Either you got a substantial merit scholarship (levy from Penn, darrow from michigan, etc.) or you totally bombed the LSAT and could not get into a top 5. If it's the latter you should hunker down and focus hard on the gmat.
What's your work experience like? If it's just some random startup it's not going to help that much.
