Switching from AM to Development

Hi everyone,

I am a career switcher and took an asset management job at a RE developer to get into the industry. My dream is to work on the development side… and I am not sure how best to make that happen. Penny for your thoughts.

I am <1yr into the AM role. I am concerned that if I don’t push to move over to development now, I might get promoted (I have a strong finance background and am doing very well at work) and the switch will be much harder later (more expensive mouth to feed without the necessary project experience).

Would you recommend trying to switch over internally or should I go recruit elsewhere?

Would it be unwise to get another offer and leverage it to switch departments (I feel like that’s a good way to ruffle feathers if I stay).

Given the state of the job market, am I better off sitting tight in my current role for now?

Appreciate any input.
