Recruiting for REIB internships and analyst positions
I have tried searching for info but to no avail. I am matriculating into a real estate masters program with the intent of transitioning into real estate investment banking. I have found very little (if any) resources on how to prepare for interviews and modeling tests. Is the process very similar to regular IB? I am well versed in recruiting process for REPE and brokerage but know virtually nothing about how to recruit for REIB.

Similar to regular IB recruiting. Way tougher to get into than brokerage. IMO, REIB is better experience if you want to go to a top REPE. If you like digging into asset level real estate, then go brokerage. But pay is literally double in REIB at a top group like BAML/WF/Citi/JPM
A lot of the top REPE guys/gals I see on linkedin have prior IB/REIB experience. I feel like REIB would position me to do the same. Background is 4 years brokerage, going into top MSRE/D program in NYC. You can prob guess the school haha. Not sure if REIB hires MSRED grads? Can anyone confirm?
I think it’s definitely possible from MSRE program (NYU/Columbia) both have a strong alumni network but you would have to start as an analyst because you have no corporate modeling experience. But yes a lot of the best REPEs hire only IB analysts because they are way more technical than anyone coming out of any asset level real estate role. Their view is: easier to teach an REIB analyst how to model a real estate acquisition than to teach a real estate lending analyst how to model a take private deal.
"REIB" is a term now? Are we just rephrasing, "I just want a job at Eastdil"? Give me a break lol.
