NYU MSRE Acceptance Chances?
Hey guys,
Okay so I'm applying to the NYU Schack MSRE Program. For those of you who have been admitted or have had friends who have been admitted, please give me any insight as to what chances you think I have based on the below qualification:
Undergrad: Southeast, non-target, state school (think large party school/football school that's not Alabama)
GPA: 2.7
Experience: 3 years in Equity Research sales
Thanks all!
Definitely not impossible. From what I understand the essay matters a whole lot and can compensate for poor GPA. Only thing I can say is to apply as early as possible, the earlier you submit during the admissions process the better (at least that is what I was told by NYU ppl).
Thanks man, I think my essay was pretty good so I'm happy about that. I've also spoken with a few people on the admissions side so hopefully that helps. Didn't apply until a few weeks before deadline though sooooo we'll see lol
What did you write youre essay about?
My experience and why it works with a future in real estate. The qualities that I’ve attained that make me ready for a career in RE etc.
Ended up getting accepted two days ago so I guess the essay was fine lol
Just got accepted, similar GPA but better undergrad school. I think it more matters about your experience at this point, why NYU/RE and letters of rec from people you've worked with. I think the deadline was July 1st for Fall and I applied around the same time and heard back pretty quick (2-3 weeks). I am assuming this is a switch in careers to real estate from equity research sales? A lot of people switch and from speaking with admissions the class is not capped so I wouldn't be too worried.
Congrats man, yeah I got accepted two days ago. I networked with the admissions and stuff so I think that helped a little. I’ll shoot you a pm we’ll prob be in the same classes lol
Do you think this would be similar for USC’s MRED program? Like what do they really value, your previous grade/school/GMAT or letters of rec/essay/work experience?
I think all of it, I would say USC is harder get into than NYU. Honestly not sure, I heard with NYU they really expanded their classes and the graduate acceptance rate is no where near as prestigious as undergrad. I would venture to guess NYU MSRE/MSRED is like 50% acceptance, it seems from these threads it's really easy to get into.
I will be graduating from the program shortly, and failed out of my first year of undergrad from a SUNY. I had a number of years of various work experiences after eventually graduating college, but I owned up to it in my essay. Talked about how disappointed and embarrassed I was, how I had to tell my parents, and what I’d learned and how I applied that experience going forward.
So in short, your essay matters.
If you can breathe, you can get in.
Why do you think its easy?
Current MSRE Student. I came from a top-25 US University with a 3.85 GPA and was admitted. The admissions spectrum ranges from individuals who went to SUNYs and other individuals who went to Penn, Michigan, University of Southern California, Emory.
Its a mix of grades, interest, and essay. Though I have heard that the target is to create a more competitive programs, esp. finance, in the next 5 years.
They should, because the current crop of career pivotors, straight out of undergrad/I had no other options cuz Covid, no RE experience MFers gumming up the works for the rest of us sucks.
And another thing, they need to ban, and I mean straight up BAN Macs from this program. I took 2 modeling classes early in my part of the program and half the time was spent by Mac users asking what the Excel shortcuts were. Talk about a waste of time.
Hey man, can I shoot you a pm? Finally decided to apply to the MSRE program. Wanted to pick your brain on the application process.
Just have a pulse and you'll get in...they might even accept corpses tbh
