What is the difference between production analyst and loan officer? Is there a difference in terms of pay, responsibilities, etc?
Same exact role. Weird that the title is not Associate Director as that’s what it would be for the same level in Capital Markets.
Probably a different title because GSE Production is technically a different group.
Thank you so much! This is very helpful. Is associate director title often associated with capital markets /investment sales and not GSE production? So to clarify, loan officers in GSE production is definitely not a producer or originator and is very much an analyst on a production team? Are there career loan officers or do most of them become producers? It is my understanding they get a percentage/bonus on every deal closed, do you have any idea on what the base and total comp will be for this role? I understand it is very team and market/volume dependent but if you have to roughly guess, what would you say? Appreciate any help, thank you!!
Short answer: No, loan officers/associate directors are not originators. They support originators.
I’m not able to get into the details of a loan officer’s comp because WD really does split GSE from CM even though it’s largely the same work (models are the same, UW is the same, etc.) so there’s a chance the pay structure is different.
I can give you details on Associate Director comp and work roles within the CM group though. AD’s are essentially the transaction managers within a production team. Think of a team with 3 originators. They will typically have 1 or 2 ADs who manage the transactions and then a couple analysts below them who do the grunt work.
WD pays out a bonus pool to analysts each year and ADs are not included. Their base is also pretty low and the comp primarily comes from a cut from the originators. It’s team-by-team dependent on how big the cut is but typically, it’s higher when you organically grow from analyst to AD as the relationship builds.
Also, within CM, many ADs originate themselves and usually get a bigger split (sometimes an even split with the originators). Again, this is team-by-team dependent but something to keep in mind if you already have a network and are confident you can tap it.
Bump- any insights please?
