Internship Inquiry

Hi all,

I'm currently a sophomore at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. I have a 3.95 GPA, worked general finance internship last summer, and am in a CRE analyst program at the school.

Do any of you Dallas folks have recommendations on where to apply for internships in the CRE sector for the summer of 2024? I'm interested in anything capital markets/acquisitions. Definitely tough to get opportunities over junior students, but my work ethic is far superior to most of those junior students.

Thanks!

There’s a lot in Dallas. Any idea on what part of RE? CRE Banking - think of any bank, find their real estate teamCRE Private Lending - I know ACORE has a Dallas office - HALL structured finance, etc. Acquisitions Development Brokerage - CBRE, JLL, Cushman & Wake

Hey there,

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it seems like you're on the right track with your GPA and previous internship experience. Now, as for your question about where to apply for internships in the CRE sector in Dallas, I'd recommend looking into both large firms and local developers.

Large firms often have structured internship programs and can provide a broad overview of the industry. They also have the resources to train you and expose you to different aspects of the business.

On the other hand, local developers or smaller firms can offer a more hands-on experience. You might get the chance to be involved in projects more directly and learn the ins and outs of the business.

Remember, it's not just about the name of the company but the experience you'll gain. So, don't shy away from opportunities that might seem less glamorous at first glance.

And don't forget to leverage your school's resources. Reach out to your career center or alumni network. They can provide valuable insights and might even be able to connect you with potential opportunities.

Keep up the good work and don't forget to have some fun along the way! After all, all work and no play makes a monkey a dull boy. Good luck!
