Commercial Sales and Leasing Realtor trying to switch to Real Estate Analyst Role
Hi everyone,
So as you can tell by the title I am trying to switch to a real estate analyst role for more of an investment analyst position where I do financial Excel modeling, market research, data analysis, etc. For the past few months, I have been applying to jobs at large firms such as JLL, CBRE, and smaller 11-50 employee firms and my email seems to just be filled up with thank you for applying and sorry to inform you emails. I am looking at entry-level positions since I am still not a year out of college yet and I graduated with a finance and real estate concentration. I currently work as a commercial realtor since this company sponsored my college real estate program and thought this would be a great place to start. I interned there and after getting a job I realized it was just not what I wanted to do. I do not get a salary and it's all commission. I could see how it could work for some people but personally, I just hate the salesman-type job. I considered myself a finance guy in college and was always good at math my whole life, which is why I feel like an analyst role would fit me so much better. I graduated with a 3.3 while playing a sport and have barely made any money from these commissions.
I feel like I am having a very difficult time job searching for the positions I want. My biggest questions are, where should I look for these types of jobs? I have been applying on Linkedin, Indeed, Glassdoor and trying to reach out to the hiring team but no one ever answers. Are there just not many of these jobs available currently? Is my only shot at trying to network with someone in the company to get my foot in the door? Is my resume not good enough? I have tried tailoring my resume to each job I apply to and had an old professor I was close with look at my resume and tell me I should have a higher "hit" rate at getting interviews, but I just don't. I have applied to over 100 jobs online and have not gotten an interview yet. The only interview I had recently was a JP Morgan interview for Syndicated Loans (nothing to do with real estate) since my friend's sister referred me. But that did not work out because of location.
Any advice on how to get a job in this sector would be greatly appreciated as I do believe I have a passion for this and would do anything to get a position such as an investment analyst.
You mind if I can PM you?
please do
Not a ton of hiring going on in the industry right now, unfortunately. Sounds like you're doing everything right. Good luck!
Respectfully, don't use the word realtor anymore. You're not a realtor. A realtor is a member of the national association of realtors, which is a trade organization solely comprised of sales professionals in the residential space. Remove it completely from your vocabulary. I would call yourself something like: Investments Sales Broker, Sales Broker, Commercial Real Estate Broker, etc etc.
Not trying to be harsh just wanting to help.
A lot of people with 3-4 years of experience are applying for analyst roles as well right now, one of the most competitive times in the market.
Any advice on searching for a job? Any different websites besides LinkedIn? I would appreciate any advice on moving forward from here
