Career Transition to Real Estate Finance?

I was wondering if you guys think transitioning from a career in Big 4 (internal audit consulting services - 2 years experience) to an analyst position in finance/Asset Management/acquisitions at a REIT/REPE is plausible? Most of my big 4 client experience is in hospitality, but the hotel management side and not the ownership side.

I've been looking into the Georgetown MPS program as well, but I would rather apply and pursue that program after gaining at LEAST six months experience at a real estate firm instead of leveraging the program soley to change careers.

Do you guys recommend I attempt to make this career transition ASAP, or stick it out one more year for a Senior Associate promotion? Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

One of my Big 4 audit buddies made the transition to a REIT but it took him a couple of job switches, as the jobs began more accounting and each hop became more finance and less accounting. It couldn't hurt to feel out the opportunities you have right now to get an idea.

As for staying to become a senior, I think it depends on the opportunities out there for you at this point. I am personally glad I stayed but mine might be an unpopular opinion. I was glad to have more of a leadership role and managing teams, at least for a limited amount of time before I left public.
