Associate level comp at JLL/CBRE/Cushman/W&D in NYC
Could anyone provide associate level comp for institutional capital markets teams in NYC? Trying to see how much I’m about to get shafted. Assumption was around $150k all in with 3-4 years of experience.
Curious as well, in a west coast market and that is what you could expect out here with that experience, obviously varies based on deal flow and which team you are on.

1st year analyst or 1st year associate?
1st year associate. Expect to make that ballpark. Unless you are coming to the team from another institutional IS team as an Analyst for 2-3 years....that’s what you’re going to be starting around. If you have a stellar year could approach 150.
Eastdil associate 225.
Heard not true this year based on bonuses sub 50%, can anyone confirm.

Much higher than $110,000. That’s low for a first year analyst at a good shop and on a good team. I would think $200,000 at the minimum, but much higher in today’s climate assuming you’re getting good deal flow.
This ain’t banking...first year analysts at Eastdil aren’t making $200k let alone someone at JLL/CBRE/C&W.
Seems high for non Eastdil groups. I know a 1st year associate with a very strong D/E team in NYC who has a base of $100k and expects to take home $140-$170k
I can second this I know people in LA and SF at CB/JLL who made around the 180 range their first year as analysts. They didnt have bases of 100 though more like 60-70 range and then had big bonuses from tips in deals.
Guys to clarify, $200,000 for associate Comp on a good team. First year analyst at my shop is typically $125,000 - $150,000 all in Comp (base, bonus and deal tips). So $110,000 seems light. Our deal flow is probably higher than average and we keep our team lean, but I know for a fact our direct competition pays the same.
By the way, CRE brokerage pays an incredible amount. It really was the best kept secret for a very long time. Our analysts make just as much as their friends at BB banks. Maybe not elite boutique though.
Sheesh - average deal size / geography on your team?
Based in NYC, but transact everywhere around the country. 50% of the business is probably NYC though. Average deal size is probably $30 - $40 million.

No, but very similar type of shop. I would suspect they pay very similar, but not sure if they give out deal tips? Every shop is different.
What are the hours like for these associate level roles at this comp?
You’ll definitely be crushed on hours, but for that comp I would think must young folks would gladly take the money and just dive head first. You’re not going to make that money working 40 hours a week, although at my shop we certainly respect PTO and holidays. I could care less if an analyst or associate wants to bounce at 6:30 to go get a sweat in at the gym if they are going to do some work in their laptop at home.
Any idea of comp in European major cities?
Horrible. CBRE in london is around 28-32k GBP base. No clue how bonus is

If it helps, I can tell you for a fact that the base offered for a first year (fresh undergrad) analyst at one of those shops is $80k. This is CRE though and you should always negotiate for higher. Bonus is entirely dependent but I wouldn't be surprised if all in was ~$110-120 or potentially even more for a killer year.
Hopefully associate is quite a bit higher than 150k
Would love to know what shops and team bc unless it’s Eastdil...I can tell you for a fact numbers that aren’t close to this.

Are the Vice Presidents / Directors that are focused on execution at these institutional shops salaried as well? What’s their comp like? I’d imagine it’s $200-$300 right?
Probably $150,000 - $175,000 for base at VP. On a good team you can certainly expect 100% bonus and some rips on deals. Definitely expect some pressure to start bringing in your own deals at that point though. No one wants to pay enormous wages to an execution guy, no matter how valuable.

See a variety of sources saying yes, others saying these roles are 100% commission/fee based.
Seems like it’s all team/firm dependent, but would be really interested in additional insight.
What are the hours like at these firms?
