On-Cycle Recruiting From SF for NYC PE Roles
Hi all, I'll be joining a top 3 SF TMT IB group in the bay area this summer as a first-year analyst. I'm interested in working in private equity and I know on-cycle recruiting happens 3 to 6 months into the job. As a result, I was wondering how do people in my situation do on-cycle recruiting for NYC PE firms? My understanding is that some SF-based PE firms and PE firms with SF offices recruit SF IB kids for SF-based roles. However, it doesn't seem like many of these kids make the cross-coast jump.
Will I have to fly across the country? What if my team says I can't take 1-2 days off to recruit?
Will firms be okay with interviewing me remotely over zoom? I'll be joining a top 3 SF TMT IB group and have been doing modeling prep, but I'm worried about the logistical issues of recruiting for NYC roles from SF. I haven't talked to anyone at my firm about this since I don't want to mention I'm looking to leave before I've even started, so would appreciate the perspective and support of those of you who recruited for NYC PE roles on-cycle while working in a non-NYC city.
Has anyone else been in this situation before? How did you manage your situation?
This question has been answered before numerous times. Would take a spin through those prior posts and see if they answer your questions.
would you mind sharing the links? WSO search engine does not seem to work and when I search for this on google and filter for WSO, my post shows up.
If I remember correctly, basically the consensus is you’ll have to fly out and make an excuse with your team. You may miss some interviews but nothing you can do about those so best to get there asap when on cycle starts
What if my firm is not supportive of analysts recruiting out? Is there a >5% chance that I might be fired/asked to resign if I try to do this? Is there anyone who cares to share their experience on how they managed to do this without getting fired?
Few thoughts
