Mid Career Switch from Government to PE/trading/asset management

Hi, I am a college student that will be doing PPE at oxford/ucl (matriculate next year). I am however on a government scholarship (specifically transport sector policy, development and regulation) to study, and will need to serve a bond. I will be roughly 32 at the end of my bond. However, I have had a lifelong interest in finance and will want to transition to finance after serving my duty. Fellow monkeys, do you think that this is feasible or whether I should just forgo my opportunity to study overseas?
