Investor Relations vs Strategy/Operations in Tech
All—I have an offer as an investor relations associate doing project management for a large Asian mega fund. The role is generalist covering Private Equity, real estate, and credit. Project management covers due diligence/presentations and less on LP relations. Essentially they want to get rid of their placement agent and have this person do more of the role in-house. Team is smart and classic pedigreed background. Other role is a series C startup that allows remote and working directly with CEO to build up the business and operations of it. Comp is about the same with the investor relations one paying a bit better. Team for startup is college dropouts but they’ve raised about $150mm USD. Which would you choose and why? Would IR be a dead end? Seems one is riskier than the other but you’d probably learn more and have skin in the game.
